Occupational Therapy is treatment that helps individuals across the lifespan participate in activities they want to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). These activities can be basic life skills like eating, dressing, bathing, etc up to more specialized activities for a specific occupation. This treatment focuses on the use of the hands and fingers; strength and coordination of movement in arms, hands, trunk; sensory and perceptual-motor integration; and cognitive integration during self-help tasks (such as dressing, eating, etc.) . It also includes the design and adaptation of materials, equipment, and environment for improved independence during daily activities. Occupational therapy practitioners have a holistic perspective, in which the focus is on adapting the environment to fit the person for improved independence in the environment.
